Bring Ya to the Brink(more) »rank: 1909by: Cyndi Lauper
Our review:Album Description:Explicit Version. Cyndi Lauper's 2008 album, Bring Ya To The Brink, is Cyndi's first album of new material in 12 years. More than 25 years after her debut, Cyndi is still exploring new artistic territory. With Bring Ya To The Brink, she found herself inspired by beat drive music that has filled dance clubs throughout Europe and No. America. Sony. 2008. :The idea of '80s superstar Cyndi Lauper releasing a straight dance record might sound dubious, but this is no opportunistic vanity project. Lauper has kept busy since her 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' heyday (see 2005's better than it had to ... Detail |

Devils In My Details(more) »rank: 2585from: SPV Recordings
Our review: :Devil In My Details is the third solo collaboration between Ogre, lead singer and front man of legendary experimental rock band Skinny Puppy and Mark Walk. Together they have created a journey of epic proportions... Lush textures and soundscapes collide with crashing beats and twisted melodies to make up this Industrial tour de force. Can you sense the stink of fear? Detail |
Welcome To The Dollhouse(more) »rank: 1681by: Danity Kane
Our review: :Welcome to the Dollhouse, Danity Kane's upcoming sophomore album, finds the ladies hotter than ever. The set is the follow-up to their blockbuster debut, which made a spectacular #1 debut on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 album chart upon its initial 2006 release. Fueled by the top 10 smash, 'Show Stopper,' the self-titled album went on to achieve RIAA platinum certification for U.S. sales exceeding one million units. Now, with their new single, 'DAMAGED,' Danity Kane have more than matched their Cinderella story debut, crafting an irresistible collection of new hits in association with such studio superstars as Danja, Stereotypes, Bryan Michael Cox, and Seven ... A Winter's Solstice: Silver Anniversary Edition(more) »rank: 1740by: Various Artists
Our review: :Since the Windham Hill imprint's Winter Solstice series was born in 1985, the concept has gone through some changes, bottoming out with 1999's abysmally kitschy Winter Solstice on Ice. With this Silver Anniversary Edition, Dawn Atkinson, who produced the first Winter Solstice disc, has gone back to her original concept of nontraditional seasonal music and novel arrangements of Christmas classics. She's also brought in some old standbys, soliciting works from Paul McCandless, Barbara Higbie, Will Ackerman, Philip Aaberg, and Liz Story. Much of this new Winter Solstice turns on classical themes. Ex-Kronos Quartet cellist Joan Jeanrenaud teams with guitarist Steve Erquiaga on an ... Detail |
Dead Man's Party(more) »rank: 5249by: Oingo Boingo
Our review: :Before he wrote half the soundtracks in the world (Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas) Danny Elfman led himself an eccentric little rock band called Oingo Boingo. Actually they weren't so little; in fact, the eight-man band boasted one of rock's finest horn sections in addition to Elfman's devilishly good, often humorous songs. Dead Man's Party is Boingo's finest hour, melding their whacked-out mix of XTC, Frank Zappa, and Tower of Power with a genuine pop sensibility. Elfman is in perfect vocal form here, leading the combo through their biggest hit, 'Weird Science' (which put Elfman on the soundtrack path) ... Detail |

Metamorphosis(more) »rank: 7203by: Maysa
Our review:Album Description:Maysa's 2008 Shanachie Records release, Metamorphosis, is a 12 song tour de force of Maysa originals! As one of the most unique soul/jazz vocalists of the past fifteen years, she has been the featured lead vocalist of the groove/dance ensemble Incognito and Stevie Wonder's Wonderlove. Special guest artists, Najee and Nick Colionne along with hit making producers Rex Rideout (Ledisi, Will Downing, Angie Stone), Ronnie Garrett (Toni Braxton, Aaliyah, Patti LaBelle) and Chris 'Big Dog' Davis (Kim Waters, Phil Perry, George Clinton), combine to make Maysa's vision a reality. Highlights include the Brazilian-tinge 'Simpatico, Maysa's provocative 'I Need A Man' and 'Walk ... Detail |
