The Wizard Of Oz: Selections From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack(more) »rank: 6556by: Herbert Stothart, Harold Arlen, E. Y. Harburg
Our review: :Lions and tigers and bears, the yellow brick road, gamboling midgets, warnings scrawled high above by a skywriting witch: No movie ever imprinted itself on young imaginations or endured in adult memory more than MGM's classic 1939 musical, and no movie score ever hooked as forcefully into our collective cultural memory. This exemplary soundtrack finally treats this deserved classic to a thoughtful and comprehensive rendering (an even more detailed, expanded version was also released simultaneously as a deluxe box) that confirms the enduring power of Harold Arlen's original music and E. Y. 'Yip' Harburg's lyrics. On film, the songs unreeled as a mixture ... Detail |

Seussical: The Musical (Original Cast Recording)(more) »rank: 784by: Original Broadway Cast, Stephen Flaherty, Eric Idle, Lynn Ahrens
Our review: :Seussical: the Musical, which is based on Dr. Seuss's beloved characters, made the news even before its Broadway opening, as tales of disastrous out-of-town tryouts multiplied and creative turmoil abounded. But the show has its fans--Rosie O'Donnell, for one, likes it so much that she jumped in to play the Cat in the Hat for a month while Roger Bart was on vacation. And guess what? As conceived by Ragtime's Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Seussical isn't nearly as bad as its reputation would suggest. While Junior digs the familiar characters, Mom and Dad will notice that 'A Day for the Cat in ... Detail |

The Prince Of Egypt: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack(more) »rank: 1580from: Dreamworks
Our review: :It should be little surprise that of the three Prince of Egypt CDs, this one, which contains music actually used in the picture, is the best. The disc features songs written by Academy Award winners Stephen Schwartz and Hans Zimmer. It also showcases the always impressive vocal talents of Ofra Haza on several tracks. The disc also crams in a few singles--ranging from the solid Boyz II Men track 'I Will Get There' to the average 'The Prince of Egypt (When You Believe)' by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey to the dismal 'Through Heaven's Eyes,' by K-Ci & JoJo. But ultimately, Haza steals ... Detail |
