Legend - The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers (New Packaging)

(more) »rank: 234

by: Bob Marley & The Wailers

Our review: :1. Is This Love2. No Woman No Cry3. Could You Be Loved4. Three Little Birds5. Buffalo Soldier6. Get Up Stand Up7. Stir It Up8. One Love/People Get Ready9. I Shot the Sheriff10. Waiting in Vain12. Satisfy My Soul13. Exodus14. Jamming essential recording:Even as greatest hits packages go, this is an utter gem. Every song is inspired, in a class of its own, whether the real version of 'I Shot the Sheriff,' the hymnlike 'No Woman, No Cry,' or the sheer joy of 'Jamming.' Even allowing that Marley never wrote any bad material, then Legend is still the crème de la crème, ...

Songs of Freedom

(more) »rank: 1296

by: Bob Marley & The Wailers

Our review: :When Songs of Freedom was released originally in 1992, it was a perfect complement to either a greatest hits collection like Legend or the entire collection of the reggae master's albums. Songs boasts enough of the recognizable from Marley's canon to address the hit seeker, but the set also reaches way, way back to include Marley's first single, the youthful 'Judge Not' from 1962, and then closes more than four hours later with a 1980 live take of 'Redemption Song' from his last concert. In between are live takes, studio remixes, and, of course, standard looks at Marley standards, playing together as a ...

Un Dia

by: Juana Molina

Our review: :The fifth release from Argentinean artist Molina is a brave departure from her previous work. It's every bit as personal and intimate, but pronounced with rhythms and with bold low end added to the mix. A hypnotic record, restless, alive with melodies that surface imperceptibly before burrowing into your brain. The tracks are informed by an ever-shifting and polymorphous sense of groove. The rhythms flow over and inside each other, played out on wood and cymbal and bombo leguero, and woven from electronic glitches. David Byrne, NPR, and The NY Times are some of her many supporters.

Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo

(more) »rank: 2712

by: Calle 13

Our review:Album Description:As one of the most innovative and sought after groups in the Latin music industry, Calle 13 return with their third album Los De Atr s Vienen Conmigo. This album is a bit more colorful than the previous, although dark humor continues to be the tone. The album has a fusion of rhythms the band discovered during their visits to several countries. They fuse rhythms of 'cumbia villera' native to Argentina, and rhythms of 'volcanic' music, native to Russia. This album includes important collaborations with Ruben Blades and Caf‚ Tacvba to name a few. The concept behind Calle 13 has been uniform throughout ...

Youth

by: Matisyahu

Our review: :The thumbnail description of Matisyahu: File under Hasidic Beatbox Reggae. Despite having markings of novelty, it's really nothing of the sort. Fronted by a man named Matisyahu (born Matthew Miller), they are truly a band. Two independently released CDs brought them a rapid and well-deserved ascent, making their signing with a major label a logical step. Youth benefits from a more expansive sound and production by the fantastic Bill Laswell (Golden Palominos, Laurie Anderson, the Last Poets). Matisyahu's singing and the substance of his songs (spiritual living, self-awareness, the value of knowledge and learning, kindness to others) are presented with a loving sincerity, ...

by: Grace Jones

Our review:Album Description:The original new wave, art/disco diva Grace Jones is back with her first album in 19 years (not including her two unreleased albums in the 90's). Hurricane features an all-star production team led by Ivor Guest, including Brian Eno, Tricky, and Sly & Robbie. Her one-off London Show at the Royal Festival Hall on June 19th for Massive Attack's Meltdown series of concerts saw the excitement for her forthcoming album sky-rocket, as The Times called it a 'sensational return to form', whilst the Telegraph observed that 'all around the gawping, whistling, cheering Festival Hall was the sense that this is how a ...

Bob Marley and the Wailers Live at the Rainbow

(more) »rank: 5446

starring: Bob Marley & the Wailers

Our review: :Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 11/15/2005 :On June 2, 1977, London's Rainbow Theatre 'caught fire'--in the best possible way, of course. At the time, Bob Marley and the Wailers, already huge in the UK, were on tour in support of the locally produced Exodus. While the show starts off with the slow-burning 'Trenchtown Rock' (1973's African Herbsman), Marley's performance grows increasingly incendiary until, by the time they get to the climactic closer, 'Exodus,' it looks as he's in another world entirely. The turning point is an extended version of 'Crazy Baldhead' (1976's Rastaman Vibration), in which Marley seemingly enters a ...

Legend - The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers

(more) »rank: 10679

starring: Bob Marley, Wailers

Our review: :Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 10/03/2006 :If you are expecting just the videos for the tracks on Bob Marley's extremely successful greatest hits CD, you are going to be pleasantly surprised with this DVD. Legend is much more than a simple, video anthology. It is a historical telling of the music of Bob Marley presented in 23 videos, most of which are performances, and a 90-minute documentary. The documentary is a collage of images and video clips put to a running dialogue by Marley. Unless you are very familiar with the Jamaican dialect, it is recommended to watch this with ...
