La Vida... Es un Ratico(more) »rank: 574by: Juanes
Our review: :La Vida...Es un Ratico (Life is a moment) is the follow up to Juanes' globally multi-platinum release Mi Sangre. In La Vida...Es un Ratico, Juanes once again teams up with co-producer Gustavo Santaolalla, Double-Oscar/Grammy winner. In his first single 'Me Enamora,' Juanes shows us his intimate personal thoughts on love and relationships. In songs like 'Minas Piedras' and Bandera de Manos' he tackles themes of both the hope for peace and social change. With this release, Juanes works to continue to perfect his distinctive fusion of rock with traditional Colombian rhythms and other international styles. Despues del exito de 'Mi Sangre', ... Detail |
Shake Away/Ojo de Culebra(more) »rank: 1327by: Lila Downs
Our review:Album Description:Exploring and expressing Mexico's rich culture has been a lifelong passion for vocalist Lila Downs. With a voice that is varied in color and range, Lila cuts a striking figure live as well - she embodies the spirit of her music with an emotion-drenched physicality. Lila's profile was raised significantly with her stunning performance in the hit film Frida, starring Salma Hayek in the title role. Lila also performed the Oscar-nominated song from the film at the Academy Awards ceremony, becoming the first Latina to perform at the telecast. Her new album Shake Away evokes her home country's rich folk-music ... Detail |

Clandestino(more) »rank: 1894by: Manu Chao
Our review:Album Description:The first solo album released by the former frontman of Mano Negra, 'Clandestino' (released in 1998) is an enchanting trip through Latin-flavored world-beat rock, reliant on a potpourri of musical styles from traditional Latin & salsa to dub to rock & roll to French pop to experimental rock to techno. 16 tracks. Virgin. :As one of the driving forces in the French-Spanish ethno-punk band Mano Negra, songwriter-guitarist Chao delivers a surprising solo endeavor. Centered around a simple editorial writing style and an acoustic guitar, this album chronicles his political and personal travels around the world, studying the foibles of life ... Detail |

La Radiolina(more) »rank: 4040by: Manu Chao
Our review: :Manu Chao is widely acknowledged as a pioneer of Latin alternative music, and was the leader of Mano Negra. This is his first studio release in the US since 2001's 'Esperanza'. He recently completed his most extensive North American tour to date, following a highly acclaimed co-headlining performance at this year's Coachella festival as well as the Bonnaroo and Sasquatch festivals. :Americans waited six years for a new studio album from one of the most exciting ambassadors of cosmopolitan party/protest music. Infusing rock fundamentals with elements of ska, reggae, punk, and Afro-pop since fronting Mano Negra ('Black Hand') in 1986, ... Detail |

Mi Sangre(more) »rank: 5924by: Juanes
Our review: :Mi Sangre meets--and often exceeds--the glittering standards set by its predecessors. The album fuses the best elements of Juanes' previous works, Un Dia Normal and Fijate Bien, to create a collection that is exciting, energetic and thought-provoking. Lead-off single 'Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor' ('I'm Worthless Without Your Love') is a bittersweet mix of alternately hopeful and sad lyrics ('That's why I want your love, always strong in my mind/Even if we are far, or even if we are near, in the end') that could be a simple declaration of amor or a love letter from a war-time soldier. Social issues ... Detail |

Todo Cambió(more) »rank: 21527by: Camila
Our review: : The debut effort from stylishly scruffy trio Camila has all the elements of a Latin-pop smash: slick production, sensitive-guy lyrics and choruses designed for arena sing-alongs. It's a glossy, gorgeous package that should incite some serious girl-swooning. Such careful planning, however, leaves little room for genuine excitement. The carefully coiffed threesome veers from pseudo-falsetto stylings to earnest intensity among 12 tracks, including 'Abrazame' and 'Va Para Ti.' It all goes down easy, but none of it makes much of an impact. Only 'Sin Tu Amor' manages to generate some real sparkle. English-language track 'U Got My Love' hints at a ... Detail |
MTV Unplugged(more) »rank: 34023by: Maná
Our review: :Maná may be at the forefront of the ever-burgeoning Rock en Español movement, but the Mexican band employs a variety of styles to perfect its pleasing pop sound. Nowhere is that more evident than on MTV Unplugged, the quartet's shimmering live collection of some of its biggest hits. Airy balladry, simmering tropical grooves, and '80s-inspired choruses all figure in the mix, making for an effortless and intimate evening of music. The live setting punches up Maná's arrangements on tracks such as 'No Ha Parado de Llover,' 'Ana,' and 'Vivir Sin Aire.' The confident vocal swagger and pleading delivery of lead singer ... Detail |
